Don't take a guess

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK
Jesus, teach me to ask an adult when I'm wondering about something, instead of taking a guess what the answer might be! Amen. Happy Easter!

When Mary Magdalene got to the cave where Jesus' body had been, she saw that the huge stone that had blocked the entrance was rolled away. Mary ran and told Peter and the other disciples, "They've taken Jesus away!" The disciples ran back to the cave and saw that Jesus wasn't there -He had risen from the dead!

Kids don't always ask questions. Often, you take a guess at what's going on or what something means - and those guesses can be a little bit off. You might guess that your grandmother lives 100 miles away, when it's really 20 miles. And remember when you thought your preschool teacher lived at the school?

This week's Gospel (John 20:1-9) is about taking guesses and being more than a little wrong. Jesus has died, and His friends Mary Magdalene and the Apostles go to the cave where His body had been placed. When they see that He's not there, they take a guess what's happened: They think that the people who crucified Jesus moved His body.

If you check with an adult about the things you're wondering about instead of taking a guess, you might get a more correct answer than what you come up with yourself. Sometimes, kids spend years thinking something that's not true, because they never asked if they were right!

Thankfully, that didn't happen to Mary Magdalene, Peter and the other Apostles. They soon found out that their guess was wrong: Jesus' body hadn't been moved to another grave. Jesus had done what He promised He would: He had come back to life! It was the very first Easter, and we still celebrate that today.[[In-content Ad]]
