DIOCESE RESPONDS TO COMPLAINT AGAINST PRIEST
Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger placed the priest, Rev. Michael Taylor, on administrative leave immediately after his arraignment. That means he cannot function publicly as a priest - cannot celebrate Mass, preach, minister publicly or present himself as a priest - at this time.
The Albany Diocese will cooperate fully with the investigation.
Father Taylor was ordained as a priest two years ago and has served as an associate pastor at St. Kateri Tekakwitha parish in Schenectady. He previously served as a deacon at Corpus Christi parish in Round Lake. The Diocese has informed the parishes where Father Taylor served or resided.
Sexual abuse is a crime and an egregious sin, and the Albany Diocese has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual abuse of children by clerics. Any priest or deacon against whom an allegation of sexual abuse of a minor is substantiated at any time is permanently removed from ministry.
In accordance with that policy, the Albany Diocese urges anyone who has been sexually abused by a priest or deacon to contact a law enforcement agency or the diocesan assistance coordinator, [email protected] or (518) 453-6646.[[In-content Ad]]
