Day keys on 'Healing Wounded Hearts'
So says Rev. Gerald Ruane, who is the main speaker at "Healing Wounded Hearts and Emotions," a day of healing and teaching on Oct. 23 at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School in Schenectady.
The event is sponsored by the Healing Ministry Committee of the Albany Diocesan Service Committee (DSC) of the Charismatic Renewal.
Healing
Father Ruane will focus on such emotions as fear, anger and grief; how they affect people; and ways Jesus can use their energy to bring people closer to wholeness and free them from pain.A priest of the Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey, Father Ruane has been involved in the Cursillo movement, the charismatic renewal and the healing ministry.
He is director of the Sacred Heart Institute, which he founded in 1979. It is a Christian center of ministry consisting of prayer for the needs of all, the Church and the country; and proclamation of the healing love of Jesus.
From 1991 to 1993, Father Ruane was delegate of the archbishop of Newark to oversee the founding of a charismatic community in the archdiocese of Newark, known as the New and Eternal Word community.
Spirituality
The Sacred Heart Press, a part of the Institute, has produced numerous audio and video cassettes on healing, prayer and spirituality by Father Ruane and other experts in such ministry. An internationally known writer, Father Ruane is the author of five books and co-author of a sixth, including: "Daily Homilies for the Year," "Birth to Birth: The Life-Death Mystery," "Overcoming Obstacles to Healing," "Healing and Your Emotional Life," "The Eucharist," and "Thank You for Hearing My Call: Living the Messages of Medjugorje."
He has recently been working on a revision of his books on healing and emotional life, the spirituality of 12-step programs, the healing power of Scripture, and the saints.
Spiritual day
The DSC hosts a teaching and healing day each spring and fall, and the spirituality of the events often inspires people to experience healing, according to Rita Rorke, co-chairperson."There have been many calls for healing that have taken place on these days," she said. "We usually have 200 people who come."
