CSR women kick, Siena men win, LaSallians sign
The College of Saint Rose women's soccer team advanced to their fourth consecutive east regional championship last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Merrimack in the NCAA Tournament second-round game Nov. 15.
The Albany school outshot Merrimack 10-3. Amanda Deck and Kimberly Morton each had a goal. Saint Rose (22-0-0) had a first-round bye, thanks to an undefeated season where they have ranked No. 2 in the Division II poll for the past six weeks. They will now face Franklin Pierce in the east regional championship Nov. 20.
The same two teams faced off for the northeast-10 championship, with Saint Rose winning 4-1. The winner will advance to the final four and face off against the winner of the Indiana (PA)/California (PA) game.
Siena College
The Siena men's basketball team opened the season the way many expected Nov. 13: The Loudonville college defeated Tennes-see State on the road 85-69, with junior guard (and the Saints' newest starter) Clarence Jackson scoring 24 points.
Senior Alex Franklin also contributed a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Siena (1-0) shot 65.2 percent from the field in the rout.
LaSalle baseball
La Salle Institute in Troy has announced that two athletes will be signing to Division I colleges for baseball: Dave Roseboom of Pattersonville will be signing with the University of South Carolina Upstate and Will Remillard of Cohoes will sign on to play with Temple University. The official signing was to take place Nov. 16 at the school.
