Cookbook recipe: Benefit chaplains

The Newman Foundation at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has cooked up something new.

"Give Thanks," the Foundation's second cookbook, is a compilation of 285 recipes collected from members of the Chapel and Cultural Center, the Christ Sun of Justice community, and the faculty, staff, students and trustees of RPI.

A key feature of the cookbook, explained Gail Kaiser, is that it contains seven complete menus, including Sunday brunch, a northwest salmon dinner, Octoberfest and an authentic Asian dinner. She said that is particularly helpful for people who don't know how to pull together a menu on their own.

While the book also contains typical cookbook chapters on appetizers, breads, main courses and desserts, it's different in that it has an international twist, thanks to "a lot of recipes from international students," Ms. Kaiser said.

There is also a miscellaneous section, which includes things that can be made of kitchen ingredients -- like play dough for children.

The Newman Foundation first published a cookbook three years ago to celebrate its 25th anniversary, Ms. Kaiser said. That cookbook sold out in five weeks.

(The new cookbook is available for $10 plus shipping and handling. To order write: Cookbook, 2008 19th Street, Troy, NY 12180.)
