Good News for Kids
Closer to you
There are some things you share with everybody. If it's your birthday and you bring cupcakes to school, everyone in the class gets one. Other things are shared with only a few people. You probably have only a few close friends, and you wouldn't let just anyone use your Gameboy or come over and play in your yard! This week's Gospel (John 14:15-21) is about the second kind of thing. Jesus says that He'll be in the hearts of people -- people who want Him there, that is! Jesus is the same way. In the Gospel story, He asked people to show their love for Him by keeping the Ten Commandments -- not stealing or swearing, being good to other people, and so on. If they did that, Jesus said, He'd know they loved God -- so He would be with them always. Jesus loves everybody -- but like you with your friends, He's closest to the people who love Him back! "If you love me, keep my commandments," Jesus said. "Whoever does that is someone who loves me. My father will love whoever loves me, and I will love them and be with them, too."
People prove they deserve to share your stuff by being nice. If someone treats you well and shares their toys, you'll do the same for them. The closer you get to someone, the more you'll share.PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, help me share everything with you! Amen.
