BASKETBALL ROUNDUP
CBA, AHN on a roll
The Christian Brothers Academy basketball team continued to dominate in their Jan. 8 game. Kameron Ritter scored 20 points to lead all scorers and give the Colonie school a 64-44 Big Ten victory against Catholic Central High School in Troy.
With the win, CBA remained unbeaten (7-0) in Big Ten play, and improved to 8-1 overall. Kevin Wilkes led CCHS with 16 points in a losing effort.
But it was another good night for the rest of the Catholic schools boys' basketball teams. LaSalle Institute in Troy won in a thriller, 56-53, as Marquis Campbell hit a three-pointer at the buzzer against Troy. Mike Murray led with 23 points for LaSalle (4-6, 3-5)
Bishop Maginn High of Albany overcame a shaky first quarter to win easily over Amsterdam, 78-63. Four Griffins players scored in double figures, led by John Scurry's 24. With the win, Maginn (7-1, 6-1) remained a game behind CBA for first place in the Big Ten.
It was an easy night for Saratoga Central Catholic High School: Sean Hobbins, Dan Keehn and Jack Keller scored 15 points each for Spa Catholic as they defeated St. Johnsville, 76-38. The win improved Spa Catholic to 4-4 overall, and 3-3 in their conference.
Girls' teams
Sarah Agan had a big night for the Academy of Holy Names basketball team, leading them to a 50-21 thumping of Lansingburgh Jan. 8. Agan recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the Albany school. Kierra Moore led all scorers with 13 points, as AHN (9-0) remained unbeaten.
Elsewhere, Bishop Maginn used a second-half comeback to squeak by Amsterdam, 48-45. Janae Lyde led with 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Griffins (7-2, 4-1). QuiEssence Price also had 14 points.
