Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has announced the following pastoral and administrative assignments for the Albany Diocese:

•  Rev. David Berberian has been named pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar, effective July 1. He will step down as vicar general of the Diocese, a position he has held since 2015, but will continue as vicar for clergy with the assistance of Rev. James Ebert, who will continue to serve as pastor of Mater Christi parish in Albany.

Prior to his appointment as vicar general, Father Berberian served as pastor of St. Mary's parish in Albany, St. Thomas the Apostle in Delmar and Christ the King in Westmere, Albany. He has also served on the diocesan Tribunal, as administrative advocate for priests and as associate pastor of Immaculate Conception parish in Glenville and St. Mary's in Crescent.

•  Rev. David LeFort  has been appointed vicar general of the Diocese and administrator of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany, effective July 1.

Father LeFort, who has served as pastor of St. Mary's parish in Clinton Heights since 2007, succeeds Rev. Michael Farano as administrator of the cathedral. Prior to his appointment to St. Mary's, Father LeFort served as pastor of Our Lady of Hope parish in Whitehall and St. Ann's in Fort Ann and as associate pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Latham. Father LeFort is a moral theologian, chair of the diocesan Presbyteral Council and an adjunct professor at Siena College.

The search for a new pastor for St. Mary's parish in Clinton Heights will begin immediately.

•  Rev. Brian Kelly has been appointed pastor of St. Ambrose parish in Latham, effective May 27. Father Kelly, who was ordained by Bishop Scharfenberger on June 18, 2016, is currently parochial vicar (associate pastor) at Blessed Sacrament parish in Albany. He has a background in business and served in that capacity in several parishes in the Diocese before becoming a priest.[[In-content Ad]]
