LEARNING AND SHARING
Attendees reveal pluses of going to Spring Enrichment
Last week, hundreds of Catholics took part in the annual Spring Enrichment, sponsored by the Albany diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis.
Held at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, the event includes speakers and scores of classes on religious topics. Here, some attendees tell why they go:
* "I came for the classes on [the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults]. They gave me a better understanding of how to draw people into our [parish] RCIA program. I also learned some pointers on the best way to prepare our teams for the evangelization process of the catechumens and candidates."
-- Deacon Fred Scarletto, youth minister at Our Lady of the Assumption parish, Rotterdam
* "I came to learn about the sacraments. Our class was able to see all the sacraments in a different light from what I was taught [as a child]. The class was wonderful. I have a better insight into the heart of the sacraments."
-- Anne Carabis, catechist at Our Lady of the Assumption parish, Latham
* "I've been coming to Spring Enrichment for many years. I'm glad to see they've added more than just straight catechetical classes. I want to learn the newest approach to catechesis. I teach kindergartners and fourth graders, and I am always open to new ideas, especially for working with the little ones!"
-- Pat Forbes, catechist at Corpus Christi parish, Round Lake
* "At the 'Confirmation Today' class, I got some ideas for different ways we can prepare the candidates [for the sacraments]. It was very informative."
-- Michelle Warren, director of youth ministry at St. Edward the Confessor parish, Clifton Park
* "I liked the class on 'What teens are willing to believe.' It gave me insight into how kids think. It renewed my enthusiasm and gave me some great ideas. I can't wait to go back and get started!"
-- Christie Keiser, coordinator for youth ministry, St. Edward the Confessor parish, Clifton Park
* "I come each year for renewal and to take part in the spirit of being with others who work in the ministry of catechesis and evangelization. This year, I was especially empowered by Father [Richard] Fragomeni's keynote talk. His passion was contagious; it gave me a fresh perspective on what we all do."
-- Pat Walsh, director of religious education, St. Joseph's parish, Scotia
