Animal blessings in the Albany Diocese


The feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, is Oct. 4. It's a traditional time for parishes to offer blessings of family pets. Some brave parishes in the Albany Diocese even hold the events indoors; others invite children to bring stuffed animals along with their live pets.

The Evangelist compiled a list of just a few animal blessings to be offered this weekend.

•  11 a.m., Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Albany

•  11  a.m., St. Edward's, Clifton Park (goodie bags distributed)

•  noon, St. Mary's, Granville

•  noon, Holy Spirit, East Greenbush (church parking lot)

•  noon, Our Lady of the Assumption, Latham (gathering space entryway)

•  noon, St. Francis of Assisi, Northville

•  noon, St. James, Chatham

•  1  p.m., St. Joseph's, Scotia (church parking lot)

•  1  p.m., St. Joseph's, Stuyvesant Falls

•  1  p.m., Blessed Sacrament, Bolton Landing (church parking lot)
