DOANE STUART
Albany school raises $4 million
Doane Stuart School in Albany has received more than $4 million in gifts and pledges in just one month toward its goal of retaining the campus at its current location.
The school "has never raised this much money in any year in its history, let alone in one month," said John Robinson Jr., board president. "This is the first major step in a campaign that will require raising a total of $10 million to $15 million over the next few years to secure the school's campus home."
In August, Doane Stuart announced the possibility of a merger with other schools because the campus was being sold by the Religious of the Sacred Heart, owners of the property.
Reaction to the merger proposal resulted in a massive outpouring of support to keep the school where it is.
Dr. Richard Enemark, headmaster, said, "I have been in independent schools for over 34 years, and I have never seen a school, especially one of our size, raise so much money so quickly. It speaks volumes about our school community. The spirit and energy on this campus are inspiring."
Doane Stuart is the only successfully merged Protestant-Catholic school in the country.
