A year of faith, cars and proms
Jeb Towne, a junior at Saratoga Central Catholic Junior Senior High School, noted, "I was confirmed in November at St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich. My older brother was my sponsor. I took Patrick as my name because I'm Irish and I like St. Patrick."
Jeb also enjoyed the junior prom that was recently held at Lillian's Restaurant in Saratoga. "It was a lot of fun," he said. "I think it was more fun with a date. The guys wore tuxes and some people got limos. I don't think the guys take it as seriously as the girls. There was a D.J., and we did a lot of dancing."
Jenneane Butler, a junior at Bishop Maginn High in Albany, attended her junior prom in March. "I had a date, and we went with a group of 12," she said. "People wore long dresses. They weren't as fancy as I thought they'd be. They were more plain."
Meghan O'Connor's prom was held in May at the Pine Haven Country Club. Her date is a student at LaSalle Institute in Troy. The two met in the winter while both were attending the winter session of the Christian Leadership Institute (CLI.) Her dress was a straight, long, light purple one. A range of styles were seen at the event from long and full to simple dresses with spaghetti straps.
Megan was confirmed in April. "I took the name Maria," she said. "I looked through a lot of saints stuff first." Her sponsor was her uncle Brian Namehere. "We're tight," she said.
Justin Fitch, a junior at Troy's Catholic Central High School, will be attending the junior/senior prom later this month. "I still have to get my tux," he said. He enjoyed some of the other events that went a long with being a junior.
"We had Junior Week," he said. "We all dress up in different ways. My favorite was Flash Back Day. I dressed like 1950s' retro. We also had the Junior Breakfast and the Junior Class Show. That went really well. Me and my friends had a skit."
Jeb, Jenneane and Meghan all enjoyed their Junior Ring Ceremonies.
Jenneane said noted that Rev. Cabell Marbury, vice principal at Maginn, blesses the rings "and then we get them. Then we had to have 20 people turn them for good luck." (MM)
