A sign from Jesus
The dinner table is covered with food. There's stuffing and vegetables and cranberry sauce -- and right in the middle is a great big turkey.
What day is it?
If you said "Thanksgiving," you're right. When you see those foods on the table, you know it must be Thanksgiving. In this week's Gospel (Luke 21:25-28,34-36), Jesus talks about other signs that will tell us what day it is, when He comes back someday!
"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars when the world is going to end," Jesus said. "When you see those signs, know that I am coming back. And remember me all the time, because if you forget, I might come back when you don't expect me."
Some signs of Thanksgiving are turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce. Others might be pumpkin pie, the Thanksgiving Day parade on television or your whole family going to Grandma's house. If you woke up and didn't know what day it was, you could figure it out from seeing all the signs!Jesus said that when He came back someday, we would see signs telling us He was coming, too. Those signs are big changes in the sun, moon and stars. We need to always watch for Jesus' coming back, so we'll be good when He gets here!
With all the signs that Thanksgiving is here, it would be hard to forget it. Jesus told us about His signs to make sure we remembered the special day when we'll see Him again, at the end of the world.
When Thanksgiving is over and you're full of turkey and pie, you don't think about it again until next year. But the day Jesus will come back isn't on the calendar like Thanksgiving, so we always have to look for Him -- when we're in church, when we're playing, and even when we're eating Thanksgiving dinner!
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK: Jesus, thank you for our food, thank you for the people at Thanksgiving dinner, and thank you for you! Happy Thanksgiving! Amen.
