Starting during the last academic year, the Saratoga Springs school transitioned in a new style of uniforms, doing away with the yellow logos, blue skirts and navy blue sweaters that had been Spa Catholic's uniform for more than 10 years.
Students are now required to wear grey pants or skirts and shirts with a more accurate logo. Male students wear purple sweaters; female students, yellow.
This change started last year, with the incoming class of sixth-graders wearing the uniforms. The newer style was optional for the upper grades until Oct. 3, when the new uniform dress code took effect.
"I just needed to freshen things up a little bit," said principal Steve Lombard.
Spa Catholic is looking to find a place to donate the old-style uniforms to make sure they go to good use. "That's one of the projects of our community," Mr. Lombard told The Evangelist.
Uniforms that are still in good condition will likely be donated to a local organization, while ones that show some more wear may go to foreign countries in need.
The transition to the new uniform was pretty seamless, the principal said, though there were a few questions from members of the senior class. Some students and parents didn't want to pay for uniforms that would only be used for a few months before graduation.
"I totally get it," Mr. Lombard admitted. "But 'uniform' means 'all in one.'"
Families acquiesced, he said, and the new style "has not been an issue."
If families are unable to afford the switch, there is financial assistance available, Mr. Lombard said.[[In-content Ad]]
