GOOD NEWS FOR KIDS
A really good day
Jesus, help me treasure the good days like the Apostles treasured their time with you! Amen.
Jesus went up a mountain to pray with Peter, James and John. As He prayed, Jesus' clothes got brighter and brighter, until the Apostles couldn't look at Him! Moses and Elijah appeared, and a voice from heaven said, "This is my chosen Son. Listen to Him." Then the light faded and the Apostles were alone with Jesus.
Everyone has bad days, but a really good day is awesome. If you brought your favorite lunch to school, got an "A" on a test and won a part in the school play, you're in a good mood for the whole day!
The Apostles probably would have picked the day they prayed with Jesus as one of their best days ever. First, they got to spend time alone with Jesus, their teacher and friend; second, they saw what Jesus looked like when He was in heaven, as bright as the sun.
To top all that off, they saw two prophets, Moses and Elijah, appear in the sky -- and heard God the Father's voice speaking from heaven!
The only problem with a really good day is that the ordinary days after it might feel yucky. When you have a whole day where things go well, the up-and-down feelings of your usual days seem worse than usual!
The Apostles must have wished every day could be like the one where they saw the "real Jesus." They learned a lot that day about who Jesus was -- that He was really God -- and it must have made them feel close to Him. After that, ordinary days might have seemed depressing!
Really good days are special just because they don't happen every day. That's why you treasure and remember them.
For Peter, James and John, their day praying with Jesus would be hard to forget -- and that's probably exactly the way Jesus meant it to be. He wanted the lessons they learned that day to stick with them forever!
