A fitting final tribute to Mother Teresa

After the death of Mother Teresa, many Catholics went searching for ways to pay tribute to her years of service to the needy, devotion to God and inspiration to the world.

Some people deepened their prayer life; others committed themselves to working for the poor through voluntarism; still others increased their efforts against abortion, capital punishment, euthanasia and other threats to human life.

This weekend, throughout the Albany Diocese, all Catholics will have a united way to honor Mother Teresa: by donating to the annual collection for the missions.

The connection is obvious. Mother Teresa was a missionary who founded an order called the Missionaries of Charity. Her life-long work was spreading comfort, education and faith wherever it was needed in the world. That same work is being carried on around the globe by other missionaries, less well known but just as dedicated to healing people physically and spiritually. In our centerspread this week, you can see dozens of men and women from the Albany Diocese who, like Mother Teresa, have gone into the home and foreign missions to carry on the work of Christ.

You can unite with them this weekend through your generous gift to the collection, a tangible sign of your admiration for Mother Teresa and of your willingness to sacrifice for the needy in places you never heard of, where people are waiting to hear God's word.
