My name is Bobbie and I am a second-grader at St. Madeleine Sophie School in Guilderland. My class is preparing for our First Communion on May 4.

First Communion is when you receive Jesus and change your life forever. It’s something you get ready for that’s really exciting for some people. It’s when you are becoming a part of God’s Kingdom and doing things that will get you into heaven. It’s when you have changes in your life, and you are doing good things that will help God to be with you.

The way I am preparing at home for Communion is I am trying on dresses and finding a pretty dress to wear. I am also preparing at school by praying every day, talking about it with friends and teachers, and thinking about it. I am trying to do my best, so I have a clean heart for Jesus. We are also preparing at school by practicing what to sing and how to receive Communion.

I feel happy because I’m receiving Jesus and changing my life forever. But I am kind of nervous because I don’t know how the changes will make me happy and what will happen when they do come. I do know that the changes are good, and not bad, so I am mostly excited because it will make my life happier.

I also feel special because not everyone gets baptized and they can’t have their First Communion if they are not baptized. ?What I am looking forward to after First Communion is that I will be able to eat the bread and drink the wine that turns into the Body of Christ and the Blood of Jesus. Another reason I am looking forward to is that your First Communion only happens once in your whole life.

My life is going to change on my First Communion day, and I am definitely looking forward to it because it will get me closer to heaven.
