A Memorial Mass was offered Dec. 8 at the DePaul Chapel of the Daughters of Charity in Albany for Sister Mary Patricia Murtagh, D.C., who died Nov. 23 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Md.  She was 87 and had been a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul for 66 years.

Born in Albany, Sister Mary Patricia was one of four children born to Patrick Joseph and Mary Catherine (Ahern) Murtagh. A 1949 graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names, Albany, she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., in 1959.  She entered the Community of the Daughters of Charity in June 1952.

She served at St. John’s School, Baltimore, Md.; Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C.; St. Vincent Hospital, Bridgeport, Conn.; St. Ann’s Infant Home, Hyattsville, Md.; Villa St. Michael; Jenkins Memorial Hospital, Baltimore; St. Ann’s Infant Home, Hyattsville; and St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla. In 1996, Sister Mary Patricia returned to Villa St. Michael where she served in various ministries until her death.

Sister Mary Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Pat McCue, and her twin sister, Edna McCullen. She is survived by her sister, Peggy (Frank) Kelly of Albany; nieces, nephews, and her sisters in community.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 29 at the Villa St. Michael Chapel. Burial followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
