Sister Mary Nestor (Margue­rite Marie Ange) Prévost, 96, a Franciscan Sister of the Atonement from Graymoor, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 2 at Lurana Health Care Residence of St. Francis Convent in Garrison. 

Sister Mary Nestor Prévost was born in Montreal on Oct. 20, 1922 to Margaret (Crampton) and Nestor Prévost. Sister Mary entered the convent as an Oblate on Oct. 14, 1938 and became a Postulant on Aug. 16, 1939.  She professed her First Vows on June 5, 1941 and her Final Vows on Aug. 23, 1947.  

As an Atonement missionary, Sister Mary served in parish, catechetical and pastoral ministries in New York (Albany, Altamont, Amsterdam, Athens, Brushton, Canajoharie, Dannemora, New York City, Ogdensburg, Schenectady and Ticonderoga), as well as in New Hampshire (Farmington), Utah (Roosevelt), California (Bakersfield & Lindsay) and Oregon (Bandon & Newport) before returning to St. Francis Convent-Graymoor in 2009.  

After returning to Graymoor and until 2017, Sister Mary continued to care for the sick by visiting hospitals and bringing Holy Communion.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Sr. Mary Kathleen Prévost, SA, and her brothers, Vincent and Rev. Normand Prévost, SA. Sister Mary is survived by her sisters in Community and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday in the Motherhouse Chapel at St. Francis Convent, Graymoor.
