Sister Bernadette Filter, C.R., 89, died on Dec. 19, 2019.

Sister Bernadette entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Resurrection on Sept. 8, 1944 and professed her final vows on Aug. 15, 1953. She celebrated her 70th anniversary in 2018.

Sister Bernadette earned her bachelor’s of science from Fordham University and her master’s degree in Religious Studies from Manhattan College.
Her 30 years of dedicated service in Catholic education included teaching at: Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale; St. Casimir School in Yonkers; St. Mary’s in Schenectady; St. Clemens Mary in New York City; St. John in Panama City, Fla.; Queen of the Rosary in Elk Grove, Ill.; St. Joseph in Poughkeepsie; St. Paul in Greenwich, Conn.; and St. Casimir in Vancouver, Canada. After retiring from teaching, Sister Bernadette served in pastoral ministry to the elderly at St. Mary’s and St. Adalbert’s in Schenectady.

Born in New York City, Sister Bernadette was the daughter of the late Robert Filter and Eva Marchlewska. She is preceded in death by her sisters Helen Filter, Sophie Zablocki, and Dorothy Filter Roszkowski and her brothers Alexander, Boleslaus, Joseph and Chester Zablocki. Sister Berna­dette is survived by her nephews, Gene (Arlene) Roszkowski and Chester (Janet) Roszkowski, as well as a great niece, Doreen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 20. Donations in Sister Bernadette’s name can be made to the Sisters of the Resurrection Memorial Fund, 35 Boltwood Avenue, Castleton, N.Y., 12033.
