Father Lloyd A. Rebeyro, 78, died Jan. 21 from complications of COVID-19.

Father Rebeyro was born in Zanzibar, Africa, on Dec. 4, 1942, and was the son of the late Philip and Mollie Rebeyro. He was educated at St. Joseph’s School in Zanzibar and, in 1963, he entered the Holy Ghost Missionary College, Kimmage Manor, in Dublin. Father Rebeyro was ordained into the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans, Holy Ghost Fathers) in Dublin.

Father Rebeyro taught for many years at Rockwell College in Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland, and later emigrated to the United States and ministered in the Diocese of Boston.

He relocated to the Albany area and was incardinated into the Diocese of Albany, ministering as a diocesan priest for many years at Historic St. Mary’s Church in Albany. Father Rebeyro had a love of animals having bred dogs and raised chickens and ducks for many years. He was a great traveler and enjoyed visiting with friends from all over the world. Father Rebeyro also served on board many cruise ships as a chaplain meeting many lifelong friends.

Father Rebeyro is survived by his sisters, Iris D’Silva of Toronto, Linda Cotta of Montreal, and brothers, Alban Reibero of Paris and Gabriel Rebeyro of Milton Keynes, England. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Rebeyro, and sister, Carol Rebeyro. Father Rebeyro is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 27 at Historic St. Mary’s Church in Albany. The Rite of Committal followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Contributions in Father Rebeyro’s memory can be sent to Historic St. Mary’s Church, 10 Lodge Street, Albany, N.Y., 12207.
