St. Mary’s parish in Glens Falls welcomed a new addition this month.

A statue of Mary was ¬≠officially dedicated by Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger on Nov. 10. The statue, which sits on green space adjacent to the church on Warren Street, was donated by the Herlihy family in memory of their mother, Marie DePan Herlihy, who died this year. Herlihy was a long-time member of St. Mary’s and the statue was commissioned by her sons, Dr. Kevin Herlihy of Glens Falls, Edward Herlihy of New York City and Dr. Peter Herlihy of Lawrence, Kan.

The statue was designed by Baker Liturgical Art Company in Connecticut, which oversaw the project and installation, and sculpted in Carrara, Italy of white marble.

Father Tom Morrette, pastor,  said the nearly 175-year-old parish had not previously had a statue of its patroness, but the devotion to Mary has been strong over the years.

“It’s time to add this loving touch from her people in Glens Falls,” Father Morrette said.
