The Diocese of Albany wants to wish you a “Happy Anniversary!” even if it has to be celebrated at home this year.

While no in-person gathering or Mass will take place due to COVID-19, the Diocese will still celebrate the 45th Annual Diocesan Marriage Jubilee this October as couples will be sent a certificate and blessing from Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger.

Mary Fay, associate director for Marriage and Family Ministries, said that the at-home ceremonies let couples honor their milestone wedding anniversaries.

“It’s one of those traditions that remind (couples) that their marriage is a sacramental vocation,” Fay said. “No matter how many years you’re celebrating, the Church wants to affirm that and say, ‘Yes, you’re one of the people who shares God’s love with the world.’ ”

The Marriage Jubilee is a long-loved tradition in the Diocese, and Fay said the Marriage and Family Ministries office “got calls very early in the pandemic” to see if the anniversary would still be happening.

“People in their 20-to-25 year milestones, they’re looking for an opportunity to celebrate their marriage,” Fay added.

Any couples who wish to participate, can submit their anniversary date and contact information through their parish or at by Friday, Oct. 23. Couples will receive a certificate and the Bishop’s blessing by mail.
