THE VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM from Saratoga Central Catholic High School presents Renee Russell and Vickie Healy of the Mollie Wilmot Radiation and Oncology Center with this year's "Saints Spike Out Cancer" check. Through fall fundraisers, the team raised more than $1,400 for the center.
On Jan. 14, 2-4 p.m., St. Mary's parish in Oneonta will host a DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. birthday celebration. It's sponsored by the Oneonta Area Branch of the NAACP and the Oneonta City Commission on Community Relations and Human Rights. "Together, we win with love for humanity," the bulletin noted....

The men's club at St. Paul the Apostle parish in Schenectady will offer a ham and scalloped potato dinner Jan. 19, 4-7 p.m. Adults are $12; children five-12 are $8. Seniors are $10. Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Latham shared this story in its "Nurse's Notes" section: "[I called my best friend to] wish her and her family a belated Happy Thanksgiving, and asked how everything went. She was hostess to 32 people for Thanksgiving dinner. All of her daughters-in-law brought side dishes and they had more food than they needed. Her next statement was a surprise: 'Not one of my grandchildren raised a finger to help clean up. They all sat in the family room and talked on their cell phones!' We wondered how we, as grandparents, can help our kids to learn that we are all here to help one another. We decided on a strategy that had us laughing: Next year, there will be a Thanksgiving 'turkey grab bag' game before dinner. In the bag will be little cards with smiley faces on one side and an activity on the other: from 'set the table' to 'load the dishwasher'"....

St. Joseph's parish in West Winfield/Richfield Springs dedicated its chapel in West Winfield on Christmas Day at 8.30 a.m. Mass. REV. SILVASTER SARIHADDULA, pastor, left that day on a mission to India and will return Jan. 8....
