PARISH NEWS From Sunday bulletins BY KATE BLAIN EDITOR Holy Spirit parish in Gloversville will host the season's first teen Mass for the area Nov. 12, 6 p.m., with REV. MATT WETSEL as the celebrant....

When St. Luke's parish in Schenectady had an open house for its new pastoral center, a sculpture of the "Homeless Jesus" by TIMOTHY SCHMALZ was blessed and dedicated. The sculpture shows Christ shrouded in a blanket to raise awareness of the homeless, poor and vulnerable and challenge people to be more compassionate and charitable. Smaller versions of the sculpture are for sale for $45 or $20....

A preliminary meeting to create a perpetual adoration chapel serving Columbia and Greene Counties was held at a September meeting of the parishes of the Hudson Valley vicariate. There will be an informational meeting at St. Mary's Academy in Hudson Nov. 9, 7 p.m....

St. Michael's parish in Cohoes just started a free, five-week adult faith formation series on the Mass: "Altaration; The Mystery of The Mass Revealed." Parents who are waiting for their children attending faith formation classes are especially invited to attend Wednesdays, 6-6:45 p.m. There will also be a free "'souper' Saturday movie night" Nov. 18 after 4 p.m. Mass, showing "The 13th Day," a film about Our Lady of Fatima....

St. Clement's parish in Saratoga Springs will have its "Re-Gifting Store" in November; donations of items can be dropped off Nov. 9-10, noon-7 p.m. Wanted are small appliances such as crockpots, toaster ovens, blenders, small microwaves and toasters, as well as new toys. For Veteran's Day, St. Edward's parish in Clifton Park will have an American flag disposal ceremony and reflection outside Nov. 13, 10 a.m. Bring flags to dispose of. Also, St. Edward's prayer shawl ministry is asking for donations of yarn, which can be dropped off in the parish office. In addition to making prayer shawls for parishioners, the group makes shawls, hats and more for St. Peter's Hospice, Albany Medical Center's NICU, Birthright, the annual coat drive, and Christmas gifts for the elderly and needy....

Holy Spirit School in East Greenbush had its Race for Education Oct. 27, with the goal of raising $25,000. Mail donations to Holy Spirit School, Race4Education, 54 Highland Drive, East Greenbush, NY 12061....

Our Lady of the Americas Shrine Church in Albany, a mission of Blessed Sacrament parish, lauded TIM KLOSE for collecting $751 for the Walk for Wildwood, which supports the Wildwood program for persons with disabilities....

Holy Cross parish in Morris had a Rosary at the shrine in the back of the church after Mass Oct. 15, followed by an open house in the rectory for all to see the improvements that have been made. The occasion was the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Mary at Fatima....

Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Watervliet had a "living Rosary" Oct. 22, with parishioners acting as Rosary beads around the perimeter of the church, praying for peace....

St. Joan of Arc parish in Menands is planning its annual "Celebration of Our Elderly" holiday dinner Dec. 16-17....

DIANE DEELEY is the new parish nurse for St. Matthew's in Voorheesville; she plans to hold parish blood pressure clinics after Masses....

St. Michael's parish in Troy noted that TERESA MURPHY was named "master gardener of the year" by Rensselaer County. Children of the parish are invited to join the children's choir, directed by KILEEN DAVIES and accompanied by JOE RIZZO. The children learn songs for liturgies, prayer services, a Christmas concert and pageant, Lent and Easter, and visit local nursing homes. Call KILEEN DAVIES, (518) 674-5417....

St. Stephen's parish in Hagaman is having a polka Mass Nov. 5, 8 a.m., with Tony's Polka Band. A coffee hour will follow....

St. John the Baptist parish in Valatie had a "hurricane relief pancake breakfast," with faith formation students pitching in. The event was sponsored by the youth ministry, with all proceeds going to Catholic Charities....

St. Kateri Tekakwitha School in Schenectady announced that fourth-grade teacher MRS. KELLY and her daughter, MRS. CANCIELLERE, are offering a running club for students in grades two to five. The students' fall meet was Nov. 2 at Tawasentha Park in Guilderland, racing by age and gender for either a half-mile loop or a one-mile loop.

The Niskayuna Fire Department visited St. Kateri School to discuss this year's fire safety theme: "Every Second Counts; Have Two Ways to Get Out." Also, Hometown Health Dental spent a week at St. Kateri School providing dental services to 70 students.

An after-care teacher at St. Kateri School has family relocating to the Diocese from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria; the schools is collecting clothing, books and toys for them.

St. Kateri parish is offering a monthly spiritual practice of quiet contemplation Nov. 8, 9 a.m., in its Union Street chapel....

St. Joseph's in West Winfield/Richfield Springs, which installed a statue of St. Teresa of Kolkata recently, announced that $1,536 in extra donations toward the statue will be given to the Missionaries of Charity in India by the parish to help them continue Mother Teresa's work....

St. John the Baptist parish in Greenville asked in its bulletin, "Have you ever wanted to go to Mass during the week, but the 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. Mass schedule just didn't fit into your routine?" Starting Oct. 25, St. John's has a 6:30 p.m. Wednesday daily Mass. It's the time the parish has holy day vigils and holy day evening Masses....

St. Ann's parish in Fort Ann had an All Saints Day party after Mass Nov. 1. People could dress as a favorite saint, share potluck items for a soup and salad bar and play games....

The men's society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Schenectady had a 100th birthday gathering for parishioner AL CALIFANO....

DEACON GARY PICHER is planning to retire as parish life director for St. Joseph's in Greenfield Center. There was a roundtable discussion recently between diocesan and parish representatives to share the future of St. Josephs and its mission church, St. Paul's in Rock City Falls....

Christ Our Light parish in Loudonville congratulated JOAN ZIARNO, a parishioner since 1971, on receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Capital District Senior Issues Forum at Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany for her service as a eucharistic minister, lector, home and hospital visitor and member of the Rosary Society and the bereavement committee....

Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Schenectady congratulated JEANE MARCHITTO and St. Paul's in Schenectady applauded VAL TEBBANO, both recipients of lifetime achievement awards from the Capital District Senior Issues Forum....

At St. Mary's in Crescent, NORMA SEQUIN was recognized by the Capital District Senior Issues Forum. St. Mary's congratulated DAVID AND SARAH MOREAU on the birth of their daughter, EVA MAE; Mrs. Moreau is the parish youth minister and both the Moreaus are part of the music ministry....

St. Mary's parish in Glens Falls said its "Walking With Purpose" women's Bible study was looking for women to provide child care to moms with young children who attend the Thursday-afternoon group....

The Tigers soccer team at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Delmar had a 4-0 winning streak....

A "stained glass" window was created by all the participants at the October LIFT gathering at Holy Spirit parish in East Greenbush. Each piece represents a parishioner and someone who could be considered a lost sheep: the homeless, the mentally ill, the lonely, the overwhelmed and all those who feel like they don't belong. "When we all are together, we create something beautiful. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we are the body of Christ," the bulletin declared.

Holy Spirit's youth ministry is doing a room makeover for St. Catherine's Center for Children's Copson House.
