St. Pius X parish in Loudon­ville had its theater camp presentation of Disney's "The Lion King Jr." by children ages eight to 14, who put together the music, dance, script and staging in one week. MARIBETH O'MALLEY YOUNG helped with three-dimensional masks and costumes; ASHLEY WALLACE painted backdrops and assembled sets and props; GEORGE AND MARY DIROLF provided an African grassland mural; JIM LAWLOR and DASHIA WALLACE assisted and NOELLE BIAZON was assistant director.

Teens from Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Latham had a car wash to raise money to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference this fall in Indiana....

Once again, MARTIN KAISER is asking parishioners of Christ Sun of Justice in Troy to support his Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation "Ride for Kids." He's been raising money to fight pediatric brain cancer since 2008, raising more than $35,000. Sacred Heart parish in Margaretville is changing its faith formation program to a monthly format wherein students and parents meet with the faith formation team and then review materials at home with their children in between meetings. "This will facilitate not only the formation of the faith of youth, but a shared and familial experience," noted REV. STEVEN SCARMOZZINO, PASTOR.

St. Mary's parish in Glens Falls wished a happy 50th wedding anniversary to VINCE AND MARY PALACINO....

At St. Paul the Apostle parish in Hancock, MONIKA NOBLE has joined PAT AND LINDA O'BRIEN on the finance council; SCOTT MACDONALD, KEN SALVESTRINI and JIM STEVEN­SON were appointed to the pastoral council; DAWN POSSEMATO is the new keeper of sacra­mental records; and KRISTIN BARRON is the new parish historian and archivist.

St. Paul's just lost SOCORRO MARIN, who had been profiled in The Evangelist several times for opening her home to up to a half-dozen adults with disabilities who needed a place to live, running both a preschool program out of St. Paul's and a thrift store in Hancock, and volunteering with a long list of parish ministries....

St. Paul's parish in Schenectady is working on enhancements to the church this summer:

•  Six pews will be removed and the organ and electric piano moved to that area, where the choir, folk group and charismatic music ministries will stand;

•  to accommodate parishioners with disabilities, reserved seating will be provided; and

•  the door in the chapel leading to the area behind the altar will be closed instead of used as an entrance, making the eucharistic chapel suitable for private adoration and prayer....

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas' Court St. Bridget at Blessed Sacrament parish in Mohawk just sponsored a card party....

Blessed Sacrament parish in Bolton Landing is having its annual celebration of St. Kateri Tekakwitha (the "Lily of the Mohawks") and the North American martyrs, recreating the days when a missionary would use his upturned canoe as an altar to celebrate Mass by putting such a canoe in the church temporarily....

Speaking of Adirondack themes, St. Francis of Assisi parish in Northville reports that volunteers ELIZABETH BARLOW and CARMEN DURKIN made an Adirondack quilt and a Nativity wall hanging for the parish to raffle off at its October craft bazaar....

Everyone screams for ice cream: Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Watervliet is having an "ice cream extravaganza" Aug. 20 after 11 a.m. Mass and the Rosary Society at Holy Trinity in Johnstown plans an ice cream social Aug. 17, 5:30-7 p.m., in the parish hall. St. John the Baptist parish in Greenville had its ice cream social in July....

The parishes of Holy Trinity in Johnstown and Holy Spirit in Gloversville will celebrate their heritages with a picnic at the Concordia Club in Gloversville Sept. 17, 1 p.m. Parishioners are asked to bring a dish to pass and items representing their heritage to display.
