"Rub a dub-dub; your car needs a scrub!" declared the bulletin at Our Lady Queen of Peace parish in Schenectady. The parish youth ministry will hold a car wash July 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at 5 Corners Coastal....

St. Paul's parish in Hancock congratulated three high school graduates who received parish youth achievement awards: RACHEL HUNTER, JOE GROSS and JARRETT HORTON. "Thank you for all you have done for our faith family over the years, and may you continue to hold St. Paul's parish family close to your hearts," the bulletin noted....

St. Thomas School in Delmar congratulated students who received special recognition at an awards ceremony and commencement: BRIANNA HAGGERTY, RUBY BANNISTER, RYAN CIANCIO, CLARK ROSE, CAYLA SCHUBMEHL, ISABELLE CRUDO, KRISTIANA KELLY-HALLER, VIOLET LAFLIN and DELIA SNYE.

At St. Thomas parish in Delmar, more than $3,000 was raised through spring fundraisers and contributions from parishioners and community members toward a parish project: building a well for a village in Africa. Fundraising this fall will involve the whole parish community, especially children and teens. See www.stthomas-church.org for progress reports....

MATT KORKEMAZ, who received the physical education department's honor award at Catholic Central High School in Troy, sent a thank-you note to Our Lady of Victory parish in Troy, which contributed toward the award. Each year, parishes in the area are invited to participate in the awards that are given to the graduates by contributing $100 to a fund....

Holy Spirit parish in East Greenbush noted that KEVIN SMITH was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team and IAN AND MICHAEL SHAW each won a first place in the local Soap Box Derby....

Holy Trinity parish in Cohoes has been dedicating its Monday-morning holy hour to the children of the parish, that they will grow in and be sustained by the faith. This "recognizes that all children and families benefit from spiritual support long past the day of their baptism," the bulletin noted. "To enhance this effort, a name placard displaying the 'family of the week'" is displayed at the parish.

Holy Trinity also welcomed new faith formation coordinator MARGARET STOCKWELL....

St. Clement's parish in Saratoga has been offering "Saints Alive, "a free summer series for all ages, Wednesdays through Aug. 2, 6-8 p.m., with discussions and videos....

The vocation ministry at St. Michael's parish in Troy sponsored a whiffle ball contest attended by 50 people; the kids beat the adults, 29-10, and SISTER JEANNE MARIE GOCHA, CSJ, addressed the group about the founding of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet....

JEANNE HAWKEY just retired as coordinator of religious education for grades pre-K through six at St. Anthony's and St. John the Evangelist parishes in Schenectady....

St. Pius X parish in Loudon­ville has a new volunteer opportunity for children: opening the parish doors with a smile as people enter for Mass to create a welcoming environment....

Immaculate Conception parish in Hoosick Falls dedicated a stone monument at its St. Mary's Cemetery July 8, designed by DAVE BEGAN and ERIC KAUFMANN, in memory of all who were buried outside the cemetery boundaries at a time in the past when unbaptized infants and children, people who could not afford a grave and some who committed crimes were buried in unmarked graves on the edge of the property. "May God's mercy, peace and forgiveness abound in us and all our departed," the parish noted....

St. Peter's parish in Saratoga is playing host to a "Triple Threat Theater Camp" Aug. 7-11, 9 a.m.-2:15 p.m., with help from parishioners JOHNNY MARTINEZ, DIANE LACHTRUPP MARTINEZ and LESLEY O'DONNELL. Kids ages seven-14 will learn singing, dancing and acting in the musical "Hairspray." St. Michael's parish in South Glens Falls hosted a free vacation Bible school July 17-21, welcoming kids up to grade four....

HEATHER EICHIN is the new administrative assistant of young disciples at Corpus Christi parish in Round Lake, assisting the faith formation and youth ministry programs....

ANGELA CARAHER has retired as director of religious education and pastoral associate for lifelong faith at Our Lady of Fatima parish in Delanson. She especially noted her pride in being part of its GIFT intergenerational faith formation program.

REV. THOMAS MORRETTE, pastor of All Saints on the Hudson parish in Mechanicville/Stillwater, offered a preemptive prayer for North Korea. "We should pray hard these days for peace and for a cool-down," he wrote in the parish bulletin. "I am asking that all parishioners consider praying every day that this most recent threat to peace in the world will soon come to an end. Pray that our prayers will disable this danger. Pray for a conversion of heart and mind of the North Korean leaders. They may not be Christians, but, even if one does not have similar faith, even they know in the deepest recesses of the heart that human beings possess a daunting capacity to choose good or bad. Pray hard that North Korea make only choices that insure the good and security of all. Pray for this preemptively. Pray to disable the threat."

All Saints on the Hudson is beginning to use its parish center, the Scerbo Center, this summer. The parish had a meeting at the center for National Catholic Youth Conference participants and noted that AMANDA KENYON and SETH MARSHALL were this year's recipients of Youth Leadership awards; receiving St. Peter's Rosary Society scholarship awards were KAYLEIGH UR­TANG and CURTIS MILLER. There was a free pasta dinner and bingo at the center for all in the community, sponsored by the Hands Together Committee, and, on July 22, a "sober dance" will be held for those in any 12-step addiction recovery program....

At Sacred Heart parish in Cairo, after many years of taking care of the parish lawns voluntarily, BOB GATTO has stepped back. His work saved the parish "an incalculable amount of money," the bulletin noted....

Gardening enthusiasts were invited to help with upkeep of flowers and plants at St. Henry's in Averill Park. REV. ALAN JUPIN thanked St. Henry's parish for a surprise party for his 80th birthday and 55th anniversary of priestly life. BILL GLASSER made wooden tables for the sanctuary....

The Rosary Altar Society at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's parish in Rensselaer had a "sip and shop" event, with items for purchase, raffles and door prizes. It benefited the parish and its charitable works. In addition, a parish town hall meeting discussed repairs and renovations to the church....

St. Mary's parish in Albany gave an update from REV. ERASTO NAAKULE of Katoke Seminary in Tanzania, who reported that parishioners' donations helped rebuild the priests' and sisters' homes after an earthquake....

St. Ann's parish in Fort Ann had a retreat titled, "The 'One Thing' is Three," part of its Hearts Afire 10-week program to educate Catholics on Church teachings and Catholic wisdom and to offer various works of mercy, apostolate suggestions, programs and support....

St. Michael's in Troy noted that parishioners were working on its social media presence. There's a new parish website, videos of the weekend Gospel and homilies, a smartphone app, Facebook and Twitter pages, a parish Instagram account and a Pinterest account....

The public policy ministry at St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar will offer its seventh "Food for Thought" talk Oct. 16, "Earth: Our Common Home," presented by SISTER LINDA NEIL, CSJ, with the art of SISTER MARION HONORS, CSJ, plus discussion, music, poetry, story and science. Parishioner PETER ORILIO of Ss. Anthony and Joseph parish in Herkimer is in the Army serving in Syria and doing well. Parishioners are praying for him....

KIMBERLY RIVERS is a new trustee for St. Mary's/St. Paul's parish in Hudson Falls, replacing ANGELA PHILLIPS. St. Mary's/St. Paul's wished PHIL AND MARIE-PAUL MOORE a happy 63rd wedding anniversary and congratulated ALYSSA FOUNTAINE and MATTHEW MELUCCI on receiving parish scholarships for academic accomplishments and service to the parish and community....

GARY CHOJECKI donated proceeds from a defensive driving class he taught at Immaculate Conception parish in Glenville back to the church. Parishioner JIM GAYLORD received a volunteer of the year award from Glendale Nursing Home, where he's a greeter at the front desk, assists residents at bingo and leads recitation of the Rosary and distribution of communion.

MSGR. ALEXANDER CHOKA of Musoma Diocese in Tanzania, who has ministered at Immaculate Conception in Glenville, has found a replacement car: a used Toyota Rav 4. Parishioners, including Knights of Columbus, raised $11,000 for him. "The cost of the vehicle is the result of the high import tax in Tanzania (about half the total price of the vehicle)," the bulletin reported....

The parishes of the "Battenkill cluster" had a day of prayer and adoration honoring Our Lady of Fatima at St. Joseph's Church in Greenwich....

ANN MCCAULEY, the new pastoral associate for administration and parish life for St. Joseph's parish in Stuyvesant Falls/Stottville, St. John the Baptist in Valatie and St. James in Chatham, visited all four worship sites to meet parishioners at Masses. A meet-and-greet was also planned.

The three parishes celebrated the feast of the visitation of Mary in May with "Mary's Role in the Plan of Salvation: A Devotional Perspective from Central and South American Traditions," a homily by REV. JORGE REYES, OSA, chaplain to the Diocese's Spanish Apostolate. He had recently spoken at a clergy gathering in the Dominican Republic for the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Mary at Fatima. The parishes also had a procession, Rosary and reception. It was part of a new tradition at Stuyvesant Falls/Stottville, Valatie and Chatham of celebrating a major liturgy on holy days as a way of praying together in a unified way....

Our Lady Queen of Peace parish in Schenectady thanked RON BATCHER for designing and installing a wooden screen for the music ministry area in the church sanctuary. It matches tables made by BOB LAVIOLETTE for Immaculate Conception parish in Schenectady, which became a part of OLQP after a merger in 2010. Also, OLQP wished LOUISE FRANCHETTI a happy 100th birthday June 20....

The Black Catholic Apostolate, based at St. Joan of Arc parish in Menands, will celebrate its anniversary Aug. 13 at the 10:15 a.m. Mass. BCA members are putting aside extra money each week toward an annual anniversary collection. A new parish council for St. Joan of Arc has been established; the members are JEAN PARKER, DONNA CRAMER, WENDY HEITZ, ED AND PEGDEUKMEJIAN, DAVE TEISCH and LAURA HARBOUR....

St. Patrick's parish in Ravena had a covered-dish supper in June to honor priests, deacons and religious who have served the parish. A new "Making St. Patrick's Vocation-Friendly" ministry team hosted the event.

MICHAELA ANDERSON is the new business and operations manager for St. Patrick's and for St. Mary's in Coxsackie. She is from St. Patrick's parish in Athens....

St. Joseph's parish in Greenwich had scaffolding in its pews for a few weeks while repairs to a broken window in the church dome were being done....

Our Lady of the Valley parish in Middleburgh had a "Marathon for a Better Life" team to raise donations for Schoharie County cancer patients. SUE WARGO captained the 12-member team, "Angels of the Valley." Middleburgh Knights of Columbus Council No. 4475 sponsored a raffle to benefit OLV's building fund, with a 2017 Kubota RTV 500 up for grabs.
