BONUS: YOUTH EDITION
Sacred Heart parish in Castleton shared information on its confirmation class, from talents like sports and responsibility to top music picks. Under "what you like about your parish," the young people listed its community feeling, friends, the pastor, youth involvement and closeness. Sacred Heart also had a parish gardening day May 23....

Sixth-graders in faith formation at Holy Trinity parish in Johnstown visited the Brennan Humane Society to learn what that organization does to help animals. Boy Scout Troop 104 cleaned up the church grounds....

KATELYNN LEAVRY of St. Mary's parish in Granville was grateful for $471 donated by parishioners toward her spring medical mission trip....

Boy Scout Troop 2 at St. Mary's parish in Glens Falls has five new scouts: JAKE KESHMIRI, JACOB HAJOS, JULIAN CAMPOPIANO from Queensbury, NOLAN MOORE from Lake Luzerne and CLAYTEN PAULDINE from South Glens Falls. That brings the total number of registered scouts to 29. On April 21 -23, Troop 2 took a trip to Boston. They stayed at the New England Base Camp in Milton and visited the Museum of Science, the Holocaust Memorial, the Old North Church, the USS Constitution, Quincy Market and the New England Aquarium and walked the five-mile Freedom Trail....

Young people from Christ the King parish in Westmere, Albany, took parishioners on "tours" of a "Matthew 25 village" they created to explain the corporal works of mercy....

Our Lady of Hope parish in Fort Plain is hosting a baccalaureate June 22 for the Fort Plain High School graduating class. In related news, high school seniors active in the parish can apply for a $100 scholarship from the Altar Rosary Society or a $200 scholarship from the Catholic Daughters of the Americas....

Our Lady Queen of Peace parish in Schenectady recognized its fifth-graders as they moved into youth ministry, a symbol of change, growing up and turning a corner. The young people can now participate as greeters, lectors, collectors and offertory gift-bearers. The youths made crafts and distributed them to the congregation....

Knights of Columbus at Holy Mother and Child parish in Corinth/Lake Luzerne will recognize two graduating high school seniors with $400 GEORGE DELANCEY SR. memorial scholarships. Also, there's a welcome back coffee hour as the Luzerne worship site reopens for the season May 28 and a spaghetti supper to benefit the Bethany Guild scholarship fund June 17....

GARRETT STEVENS completed a prayer garden at Our Lady of Hope parish in Whitehall to earn the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts. He gave the remaining funds not needed for the project -- $1,727 -- back to the parish....

St. Mary's in Oneonta is having a parish picnic June 4, 12:30-3:30 p.m., at Wilber Park. There will be a potluck and games: sack races, egg races, "altar server Olympics" and more....

Immaculate Conception par­ish in Hoosick Falls has been hosting 45 students and faculty from Academia Avance School in Los Angeles who are participating in the Taconic Mountain Water Conferences at Bennington College in Vermont, a national conference on water pollution, PFOAs and safeguarding water resources. The students are also sharing environmental stewardship ideas with Akwesasne Mohawks along the St. Lawrence River and touring Montreal, the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and the Cohoes Falls. They joined Immaculate Conception for Mass May 21.

Immaculate Conception will host a canoe expedition down the Battenkill for high school graduates June 20, 1:30 p.m., with dinner following. There will also be a canoe trip June 6, 1:30 p.m., for college students returning home. Call (518)686-5064....

St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar notes that its youth ministry is asking young parishioners to design a t-shirt with the motto, "Make a Difference." Designs must be submitted to mhospodar@stthomas-church .org by June 9.

St. Thomas School is celebrating its 60th anniversary. There will be a party June 9, an open house June 10 and a Mass and reception June 11. Visit www.sts60thanniversary.eventbrite.com.

Also, an anonymous donor is offering six $1,500 scholarships named in honor of the school's first principal, Sister Ann Eleanor, to girls who enroll in the school's 2017-18 kindergarten class. Families must apply by July 1 to THOMAS KANE, principal, St. Thomas the Apostle School, 42 Adams Place, Delmar, NY 12054, with a letter indicating why the parents have chosen to send their daughter to St. Thomas....

DEACON CHRIS KEOUGH, parish life director at Transfiguration parish in Speigletown/Schaghticoke, wrote in the bulletin that "there were quite a few people from our parish who attended the First Communion Mass who had no family relation to a child. They wanted to support the children! I experienced something I can only describe as an 'aha' moment during distribution of communion. A young girl came before me to receive holy communion. I offered her 'the Body of Christ,' and she responded, 'Amen.' Then she looked me in the eye and whispered, 'Thank you.' It struck me as a beautiful testimony that she is thankful for the gift of Jesus in holy communion"....

St. Matthew's in Voorheesville congratulates SHANE BARNES, who has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. As his service project, he landscaped the parish shrine last spring.

St. Joseph's/St. Michael's/Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish in Amsterdam is having an Italian pepper biscuit-making class by the Christian Women Society June 3, 9 a.m., led by VICKI DISCENZA, TINA ROSSI and ANTOINETTE CARBONE. Its free for Christian Women members and $10 for non-members. Call Joan at 842-5834, or Loretta, 842-2181. There will also be an Italian pepper biscuit sale after Masses June 3-4. The Christian Women Society had a spring fling dance May 20, with music by "Music For Life"....

All Saints on the Hudson parish in Mechanicville/Stillwater hosted a citizens disaster preparedness program by the U.S. Army National Guard recently, sharing ideas to prepare for any type of disaster, respond and recover as soon as possible - including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. The parish also wished a happy 101st birthday to KATHRYN HIGGINS on May 8....

At Christ the King parish in Westmere, Albany, parishioners JOHN AND ANN RYAN renewed their wedding vows for their 60th anniversary and THEODORA AND ANTHONY FAZIO did the same for their 50th. SISTER KARYL FREDERICKS is leading a study on miracles in Scripture Wednesday mornings through May 31....

St. Joseph's parish in Greenwich noted that more than 60 walkers gathered at the village park recently to walk in solidarity with the poor and hungry throughout the world. The community donated more than $9,000 to feed the hungry. The Greenwich Comfort Food Pan­try will receive 25 percent of the funds raised by the Greenwich walkers....

St. Michael's parish in in South Glens Falls had a tag sale May 19-20....

On May 20, St. Madeleine Sophie parish in Schenectady hosted musical performances by local artists Everest Rising and E.J. RAY; the event was sponsored by the men's association....

Blessed Sacrament parish in Mohawk announced that parish life director SISTER MARY JO TALLMAN, CSJ, is being honored June 1 at the Magic of Herkimer celebration for her contributions to pastoral care for area residents for more than 14 years....

St. Augustine's parish in Troy had a Mass to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Mary at Fatima, Portugal, with a special guest presider: REV. JOHN BACEVICIUS of Kennebunkport, ME....

Immaculate Conception par­ish in Hoosick Falls was one of the churches featured in "Spring Stroll and Stained Glass" May 20. People could tour St. Mark's Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church of Hoosick Falls, First United Presbyterian and Immaculate Conception to see the "windows of faith" in the churches....

JIM CRONIN of St. Joseph's parish in Schenectady is looking for an assistant so he can retire after 20 years of recording the parish's Sunday Mass for public access television. He also recorded the weekly "Hogan on the Hill" public access TV program by REV. MICHAEL HOGAN until Father Hogan's passing in 2014.

MARTHA DIORIO of St. Joseph's in Schenectady turned 98 in April....

St. Francis parish in Northville and St. Joseph's in Broadalbin had a spring evening of reflection on forgiveness, led by REV. JUN SEGURA....

A tree was planted at St. Thomas parish in Cherry Valley in memory of the late REV. JOHN ROOS, with a proclamation read by a forester from the Department of Environmental Conservation....

REV. THOMAS HAYES, newly retired as pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar, noted that he'll be helping cover weekend liturgies at parishes around the Diocese and taking a week-long course at the Maryknoll Mission Institute in Ossining, N.Y., on the new cosmology and its implications for liturgy and worship. "I enjoy studying the intersection of faith and science in the modern age," he said....

Holy Trinity parish in Cohoes has three new flowering pear trees and is planting 15 saplings -- two flowering varieties and one conifer -- purchased at a tree sale at Albany County Soil and Water Department to create a decorative border along Surprenant Avenue. Also, the lawn between the rectory and church was reseeded....

St. Mary's in Crescent thanked ANNE TREMBLAY, retiring after many years of coordinating the collection counters team. LIZ KONECNIK is the new coordinator. Also, since the parish is expanding its youth ministry, CHRIS FOX will step down from the position....

St. Francis of Assisi parish in Albany notes that $2,000 has been raised for its music fund to repair the church organ, thanks in part to concerts by the Saint Rose Madrigal Singers and the Albany Mendelssohn Club. The organ keyboards will be sent to Syracuse to be reworked and the organ reassembled by the end of August.

St. Francis of Assisi parish invited parishioners to come to church a little early on Mother's Day weekend to write on slips of paper the names of all mothers (living and deceased) they wished to pray for; a special prayer was offered for them at the end of each Mass....

Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Watervliet is placing a brick walkway alongside its church this fall where parishioners can order commemorative engraved bricks. Call (518) 273-6020 by June 11....

St. Joseph's parish in Greenfield Center hosted a "pickin' session" and open mic May 24, with jam sessions and an open mic for musicians. It's held the fourth Wednesday of each month in the parish hall with BOB ZINK and TONY ZANELLA facilitating.
