The new vocation ministry at Our Lady of Victory parish in Troy, along with the festival committee and youth ministry, will honor REV. JOSEPH BARKER at OLV's annual strawberry festival June 24, 5-7 pm. Father Barker is marking 60 years of priesthood. He retired in 1998 and continues ministering at OLV and its mission, Our Lady of the Snow in Grafton. The parish will present him with a spiritual bouquet of prayers at the event, which includes a barbecue, children's activities and desserts....

At Saratoga Central Catholic High School's graduation ceremony, it was noted that the school's 31 graduates have been offered more than $6.4 million in academic scholarships.

Five students from Saratoga Central Catholic participated in NYSSMA, the New York State School of Music Association solo competition. DIANA DORSEY, MICHAELA DORSEY, LJ LAFIURA, JARROD MARTIN and KALLIE TARKLESON performed solo vocal pieces and a sight-reading piece. Each received excellent scores. MEGHAN BARROW of St. Mary's School in Ballston Spa accompanied each student....

St. Ambrose School in Latham had several students participate in the NYSSMA competition: MARGARET FAHR, LAUREN LEE-CHUNG and SKYLAR LOH on violin, SAM FONDACARO on the snare drum and LARISSA LEE on the flute....

On May 14, Siena College in Loudonville conferred 799 degrees, representing 31 undergraduate majors and one graduate major, plus more than 80 minors and certificate programs. Speakers included graduating senior AMY POL­CHINSKI; Siena president BRO­THER F. EDWARD COUGHLIN, OFM; board chair HOWARD FOOTE; and DR. LUCAS TUCKER, associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry, who is the winner of Siena's annual excellence in teaching award.

GREG ALTMAN and KATIE BURKE, senior biology majors at Siena College, have been spending five weeks this summer volunteering as teachers at St. Gabriel's School, Fontaine, Haiti. They reported on participating in a teacher appreciation day to discuss the past year and plan for the coming one, as well as a day to honor the Haitian flag. The Siena students also hiked Mount Fontaine and watched children make their First Communion.

Siena College was included in a national New York Times ranking of colleges based on their commitment to socio-economic diversity. Siena ranked 82nd on the list of 171 colleges, based on a combination of the number of lower-and middle-income students they enroll and the cost to students.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Siena alum WILLIAM KENNEDY was inducted into the New York State Writers Hall of Fame....

On May 13, The College of Saint Rose in Albany awarded bachelor's and master's degrees and certificates of advanced study to more than 1,500 students at its annual commencement. The degree recipients hail from 18 states and 22 countries. CSR bestowed the Carondelet Medal, its highest honor, on SISTER CHARLEEN BLOOM, CSJ, Ph.D., for service to the college and community in leading pioneering workshops on stuttering that have become a national model. DR. JENNIFER MARLOW, associate professor of English, received the J. SPENCER AND PATRICIA HUNTER STANDISH endowed chair in English. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) reaffirmed accreditation of the business programs in Saint Rose's Huether School of Business. The college goes through the reaffirmation process every 10 years, signifying that it meets rigorous educational standards.
