STUDENTS FROM Sacred Heart School in Troy, Holy Spirit School in East Greenbush, St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls, Sacred Heart School in Troy and St. Jude School in Wynantskill join the student body of Catholic Central High in Troy for a Mass, blessing of the throats, a presentation from the Rensselaer County Legislature and a school dance.

At a Catholic Schools Week Mass at Catholic Central High School in Troy, also attended by students from area Catholic elementary schools (see photo), Rensselaer County Legislators presented principals from CCHS, Holy Spirit School in East Greenbush, St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls, Sacred Heart School in Troy and St. Jude School in Wynantskill with a resolution honoring the schools in celebration of Catholic Schools Week....

Students from Saratoga Central Catholic High School are planning a bus trip to see popular Catholic speaker MATTHEW KELLY give a talk in April in Monroe, N.Y., on "living every day with passion and purpose." (For more Spa Catholic news, see accompanying photo.)....

REV. RICHARD VOSKO, an internationally-known planner for worship spaces and a sacramental minister at St. Vincent's parish in Albany, just gave the keynote and other talks at a national art and architecture seminar in Ireland, sponsored by that country's National Centre for Liturgy. Father Vosko has worked on more than 100 renovation projects for sacred spaces....

The women's basketball team from Siena College in Loudon­ville hosted its annual "Pink Zone" game against Manhattan College Feb. 10. The event seeks to raise awareness about the fight against breast cancer and funds for local survivors. Student athletes and coaches escorted local breast cancer survivors onto the court and recognized them for their battle against the disease. Fans wore pink to the game.

Siena president BROTHER F. EDWARD COUGHLIN, OFM, issued a statement on PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP'S executive order banning immigration to the United States by persons from seven countries: "Siena College's Catholic-Franciscan tradition and core values ask us to respect and value every person -- regardless of their race, creed, gender identity, culture or religious affiliation. In this vein, we are especially grateful for the many ways our diverse faculty and students contribute their unique gifts and talents to the richness of our academic and community life...The president's executive order should be rescinded immediately. It does not reflect the history or ideals of our nation, our diverse religious heritages, or our colleges and universities."

Siena's Franciscan friars followed with a statement of their own: "We strongly oppose this executive order and ask the president and his administration to rescind it immediately. Closing our country's borders to immigrants and refugees based on their ethnic origin and religious beliefs is an act of cruelty and hate"....

DR. CAROLYN STEFANCO, president of The College of Saint Rose in Albany, has been appointed to the board of trustees for the American University in Bulgaria, the first American-style, English language, liberal arts educational institution in Eastern Europe. She noted that the AUBG has 1,100 students from more than 40 countries; it is a private, not-for-profit institution that has the support of the U.S. and Bulgarian governments, the Open Society Institute and the University of Maine.

Saint Rose has appointed DEBRA LEE POLLEY its vice president for finance and administration. She will be responsible for strategic financial planning and overall management of the college's financial resources and operations, and will oversee the human resources, security, technology, and facilities and housekeeping offices, as well as treasury, accounting and business operations. She has been with Saint Rose for more than two decades in several finance-related roles....

St. Mary's Academy in Hoosick Falls announced its honor roll for the second marking period. High Honors with distinction go to KATELYN YERDON....

St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam is accepting applications for Carondelet Community Funds. The fund provides modest assistance to local programs and agencies whose values and mission align with the mission and values of St. Mary's. Non-profit community agencies located in the service area of St. Mary's can apply by March 10 by contacting St. Mary's Mission Integration Office, (518) 841-7135.
