Have you heard? YOUTH EDITION
Holy Spirit in East Greenbush is having a youth spirit night in January, with a "Comic Jam" where in youth in grades six to 12 create a comic -- in this case, with a Scripture theme....

Our Lady of Grace parish in Ballston Lake said farewell to faith formation/youth ministry secretary JUDY CONWAY.... Sacred Heart parish in Troy has started a youth ministry. Meeting every other Sunday evening, it will include social activities, service opportunities and spiritual events for ages 14-18....

The faith formation program at St. Joan of Arc parish/the Black Catholic Apostolate in Menands collected hygiene products for the FLORA E. KIPPINS Foundation as part of Advent activities, including 119 toothbrushes, 30 toothbrush holders, 63 tubes of toothpaste and 47 bars of soap....

Youth ministry members at Holy Spirit parish in Gloversville participated in a giving tree during Advent. The youth minister went to Friday's Table, where people in need get meals, and asked clients to write something they wanted for Christmas that a sixth- through 10th-grade student could purchase for them. When the Holy Spirit students were asked what they themselves wanted, they talked about Xboxes, hoverboards and iPhones; meanwhile, one Friday's Table client asked for a prayer for children to have a Merry Christmas; another homeless man was in tears when he realized someone would buy him a blanket. A 16-year-old boy wrote "bread" on his tag. A 13-year-old girl said it's so cold in her home that she would love a cotton blanket and, if it was not too much trouble, a fluffy pillow. Some clients wrote "love" or "stop the hate," and some said they didn't need anything....

KAITLYN SMITH of Transfiguration parish in Speigletown/ Schaghticoke is going on a mission to Guatemala to build schools and a medical center in Xepocol to serve the Mayan people. To support her, parish youth are selling candy bars after Masses and parishioners are donating children's clothing and shoes for her to distribute.

Parish life director DEACON CHRIS KEOUGH shared a story in the bulletin for Transfiguration parish about a first reconciliation service for children: "REV. DOMINIC INGEMIE asked the parents to bring their child up to either himself or REV. GEORGE BRUCKER, introduce their son or daughter, and then leave them with the priest to celebrate their first reconciliation. I could tell the children were somewhat anxious at first, but pretty much all of them had smiles on their faces after their confession.

"I noticed one of the girls escorting her mother up to Father Brucker so her mother could receive the sacrament. She wanted to bring her mother to Jesus, just like her mother had brought her to Jesus. After her mother's confession, the little girl brought her siblings up to Father Brucker to introduce them and receive a blessing. I thought to myself, 'That little girl was an evangelist in the truest sense of the word, and she did so out of love. She showed me what it means to 'be the love of Jesus'"....

PHILIP RUGGIRELLO of St. Thomas the Apostle parish in Delmar has earned his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts. His service project was building eight nesting bird boxes for American kestrels, tree swallows and wood ducks, which were installed around the Power New York plant in Glenmont to help the Audubon Society ensure a safe environment for birds....

The youth group from St. Michael's parish in Cohoes went to the Regional Food Bank in Latham this month to do service work.
