On July 1, St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church  in Cohoes is planning a 100th anniversary celebration of the martyrdom of St. Elizabeth the Royal, with the public invited. There will be a 9:30 a.m. Hierarchical Divine Liturgy followed by brunch, a 1:30 p.m. Akathistos service to St. Elizabeth, a talk on the Life of St. Elizabeth, veneration of her relics and anointing with her oil. THOMAS CRONIN, advisor to BISHOP EDWARD B. SCHARFENBERGER for family and parish evangelization, spoke at St. Joseph the Worker parish in Richfield Springs/West Winfield for an evangelical event called, “Come to Dinner With Me.” REV. SYLVASTER SARIHADDULA, pastor, had invited Mr. Cronin to offer advice on parishioners’ baptismal call to evangelize through prayer, faith and a welcoming spirit, how to attract new members and young families to the parish and how to retain current members. Parishioners were encouraged to remember that “nothing is more important than bringing Jesus to others in your own individual way, day to day...and to be courageous when opportunities arise.” Mr. Cronin also mentioned the upcoming diocesan Eucharistic Congress, to be held Sept. 22 at the Shrine of Our Lady of Martyrs in Auriesville, as an event that will offer opportunities to grow in faith. Corpus Christi parish in Round Lake recently concluded a “spiritual adoption” program, during which parishioners prayed for 107 unborn children for nine months. The program, chaired by administrative assistant HEATHER EICHIN, ended with a baby shower to collect baby items to distribute to Mary’s Corner, the Christ Child Society and the Gabriel Project at St. Clement’s parish in Saratoga Springs....

St. Mary’s parish in Coxsackie can take pride in the ordination of REV. LEO CAMURATI, who just became a Dominican priest, ordained at the Basilica of the  Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., by CARDINAL TIMOTHY DOLAN of the Archdiocese of New York. A native of Queens, Father Camurati worked for the American Academy of Mechanical Engineers before joining the Dominican order; his family moved to Coxsackie a few years ago and attends St. Mary’s....

As the faith formation program wrapped up for the year at All Saints on the Hudson parish in Mechanicville/Stillwater, the par­ish gave its more than 40 catechists, aides and safety monitors colorful garden stakes “to remind them that with patience and trust in God, in the acceptable time, the harvest will come”....

St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam just sponsored its annual Race for Education color fun run. Almost 200 students, from the early childhood program through grade eight, were doused in blue powder along a race course by volunteers from St. Mary’s Healthcare; afterward, they got blue shaved ice. Even before the race, the students had raised $14,000 in pledges that will provide tuition assistance to families in need....

At Sacred Heart School in Troy, pre-kindergartners celebrated the letter “Z” by making zebras in a cage as the central point of a classroom zoo. The children brought stuffed animals from home, shared them during show-and-tell and added them to the zoo display.
