Students from several Siena College political science groups gathered last week to read the names of the 17 individuals who were killed at the high school shooting in Parkland, Fla. They then observed a few minutes of silence.

Also at Siena, the college is expanding a new need-based scholarship program. The St. Francis scholarship program is now being offered to qualifying students from nine northeastern states whose families earn up to $200,000 a year. The scholarship offers up to $12,000 over four years for tuition for students from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont....

The Priory retreat house in Chestertown has three new board members: the REV. On a Mission of Hope to Nicaragua in February, volunteers built 12 homes, painted at two hospitals, distributed rice and beans to 13 barrios, made repairs to three schools, set up "lab in a box" programs for 10 schools, distributed more than 200 day kits for girls, met with hundreds of sponsored students, met with young women being educated through a Buddhist global outreach grant, held dental clinics, did medical outreach in barrios, held a women's health clinic in Managua and delivered funds for water tank storage systems.
